Tool - 10,000 Days

New Tool cd came out today.

In other words, I am overjoyed.

Simply one of the greatest bands all time. Their music isn't for all tastes. It's complex. It's not pop. It's the metal version of bands like Pink Floyd and Radiohead. They don't write songs, they compose albums.

There are several 11 minute songs on the disc. Minor tempo changes, themes carried over from song to song, evolving sounds throughout a single song...

Add onto it one of the greatest vocalists in rock history (Maynard James Keehan, who also fronts A Perfect Circle).

Potentially a full, in depth review in a week or two. This is not an album to give a quick listen to and then comment. Way too complex.

I can't say I've heard much Tool, but A Perfect Circle are brilliant.

adem - I'm a huge fan of both groups, Tool by far being the precurser (since they've been around much longer).

Basically Maynard records more pop oriented songs with APC. The Tool discs are much darker, and far less radio friendly.

Tools albums overall have been evolving. Initially, with albums like Opiate and Undertow, it was a song by song thing. When Aenema came out, you could really begin to hear the expansion of their sound and writing skills. Lateralus and 10,000 days have pushed the bar to a new level.

ok, I need to shut up. LOL. I'm a bit too big a fan of them.
