The Nu-Hippy Lifestyle
I have officially designated my label as being a Nu-Hippy. Not to be confused with the washed up, burnt out, hippies of the late 60's and early 70's. The Nu-Hippy is a different breed.
Nu-Hippies appose war unless in dire need to defend ourselves, but will always embrace our brothers and sisters who go off to fight in war. We are aware that the world is not perfect, and at times war is an only option. We are also aware that death and retribution get returned with more death and retribution. The risks must be weighed thoroughly. We will voice our opinion if it differs from government. That opinion will also differ from each of us.
Nu-Hippies are not drugged up on whatever pill, plant, or chemical we can come across. We are not strung out on the corner singing Grateful dead songs and tripped out by the trails of colors that appear behind our hands. Some of us have never touched anything that wasn't prescribed to us. We know of the culture, and we don't dive into it.
Nu-Hippies are rightious. We have strong morals. We express our beliefs, and respect others for theirs. Its not about winning the argument, it is about expressing the idea. Free thought creates more ideas, and new ways of thinking and approaching things. Forced thought, and arguments into dominance promote a single narrow minded view, which can be disastrous for a society.
Nu-Hippies like to have fun, but still have jobs and responsibilities. We don't live out of our cars and walk around barefoot in our dirty tie-dyed clothing. We believe in personal hygiene.
Nu-Hippies like sex, but aren't into that free sex thing of the old hippy era. Its not 1969 anymore. Its not a case of ouch or give me some penicillin nowadays. We are socially conscious, and act accordingly.
Nu-Hippies are open minded, and just as individual as anyone else is when it comes to entertainment. We listen to all types of music and watch any genre of movie. Our fashion sense is just as varied, although we won't go out and buy status symbol clothing. We are relaxed in our attire, and often times subdued in comparison to the rest of the crowd.
Nu-Hippies are environmentally conscious, but aren't so in a disturbing fashion. We like birds and trees and nature and ending polution. -BUT- We have no problem with eating a cow. We do not take issue because through proper resource management trees are cut down for wood, but more are planted in their place. We don't drive a V8 SUV to one up the neighbor, or because we just might, one day, possibly, need to go up a 45 degree incline on the rubicon trail.
Nu-Hippies are liberal. We are so liberal, we even like conservatives.
On that note, here is a hug from this liberal, to all of you.
Now, back to hugging my tree.
