Someone To Look Up To

I'm sorry. That is one of the worst ways to start out something a person is writing, but for this topic, I have to apologize ahead of time. Why? I am writing about American Idol.

I know, I know. I shun so called reality TV, let along a show that shoves a bunch of people on stage to sing music that I for the most part don't like. Now I'm writing about it. It's different though this time.

There are truly representative challangers of what it takes to be an American Pop icon. There is Scott the jello boy, who was arrested for domestic violence. There is also Bo, who was arrested for possession of marijauna, coke, paraphenalia, and public intoxication. Now THOSE are truly characteristics of what it takes to make it big in the entertainment business.

All the greats have issues. Elvis=pill popper. Hendrix=drugs. Jackson=sex with little boys. James Brown=drugs, domestic violence. In that group we have 2 kings and a godfather.

That's why even though I haven't watched an episode, I just get my Idol force fed through the media and news, I must hope that Bo or Scott win. They truly are American Idols.

Don't you just love it when someone takes the rants of a comedian as being serious?

I'm sorry I am probably too "uptight and impacted with your own bodily wastes" to not dive into the mainstream phenominah of American Idol. I don't follow what mainstream america dictates that I do.

From reading your massive three blog posts, you live american idol. Such a shame too. There is much better music available to the world than Constantine singing Nickelback.

Get out of top 40 corporate radio. Discover the depths of music produced by genres other than what a 40 year old man in a business suit thinks will sell. Discover the sounds of the local bands. Engulge in the dirty sounds produced by metal. Bask in the clarity of Pavarotti singing "O solo mio." Find cutting edge music like Matisyahu who managed to blend reggae with his Jewish religious beliefs, producing something entirely new.

Music was not intended to be some bland pop show like american idol. Music is about expression. It is about emotion. American Idol is about who can sell out the most. Its about who can deep throat Simon and Randy best, because we all know Paula is tone deaf and loves everything.

I don't watch the show. I won't watch the show. I've seen my snippets in highlights and on the news. It does NOTHING for me. The performers don't show me emotion. They show me how corporate this world has become.

Oh, and my comment to anonymous. See, that anonymous comment was done by what is called a bot. Its a computer program that leaves messages on peoples blogs. Its spam. Its junk mail. Me threatening a computer program with "mortal combat" is very dry, sarcastic humor. You can't comprehend sarcasm though. That involves intelligence.

Very dry? That might be pushing it. But dude, you gotta check out that crazy dude's blog; he's got two posts about American Idol and one about Los Angeles policing policies. I kid you not. This dude takes his American Idol VERY seriously.

Oh, and thanks for the link, slugger ;-)

No prob for the link. I stumbled across your blog a while back. I think all you had was one post and the GNR theme song. I laughed hysterically, and bookmarked ya.

And yeah, I did check out his blog. He lives American Idol. Kinda scary.

i've got to say, that comment about the anonymous fascist pig was probably the highlight of my day! bad days can always be brightened by laughing at threats to such a sickeningly cheerful sounding anonymous... thanks for that :)

bloody hell michael, what did you do to these people? (people who, by the way, need to work out the differences between "your" and "you're", as it makes it so much easier for the reader (although I know that saying this will anger the karma Gods and I am doomed to a grammatical error of my own for pointing it out)

I got it, by the way. Both your post, and your reaction to the spambot.

Maybe that's because I'm 31 going on 237.

sigh.

Some folks take their American Idol just a bit too seriously.

All I did was say I don't like the show.

Holy Elvis. Leave it to the American Idol post to stir up so many comments. Mr. Lookout needs to spend a little more time posting to his own blog instead of trying to be funny.
Michael, since you haven't watched it let me fill you in. Scott suuuuuucks. Bad. So bad. Bo is rockin' and I hope he wins. Also, please don't tell anyone that I actually watch Idol. It's embarassing.

I've read varying opinions on Scott, and what I've seen in snippets and highlights I really don't care for him.

It's rare I've come across anything bad on Bo. Plus, of the snippets I've seen of him, he's actually pretty good. I just remember hearing him sing some Black Crowes and thinking he was Chris Robinson (I think that's their lead singer).

Don't worry, I won't tell anyone about you and Idol. We are all allowed dirty secrets. One of mine will come up in my music list today...
